As a major service provider to the NHS, we felt it was essential to provide the
optimum level of training for our staff and, where appropriate, our clients’ staff.
So, three years ago we set up a dedicated learning and development centre, InitialFirst.
InitialFirst is a nationally focussed dedicated team delivering high quality
training to internal and external clients in the healthcare sector. It provides
an effective, reliable and quality assured delivery system of learning and
development activities for HealthcareInitial staff and clients.
In the last two years InitialFirst has gone from strength to strength and is
now in a position to offer NVQs covering a multitude of courses including,
Customer Service, Hospitality, Support Services, Business Administration and
Management qualifications.
We recognised early on that the diverse needs of our workforce would require
support for employees to achieve where basic skills needs were a barrier. So,
we took the next step and recruited specialist Skills for Life (SfL) tutors for
both Numeracy and Literacy delivery.
Since InitialFirst launched, we have engaged more than 900 staff in Level 2/3
NVQs, up to 300 SfL qualifications and piloted an English Speakers of Other
Languages (ESOL) course for nearly 100 of our employees.
